Wild tea with jesus

At the Barbara C. Harris Camp & Conference Center, Greenfield, NH

Saturday, March 16 from 9:00am-3:30pm

More details below.

Enter into Jesus’ Lenten journey by engaging in an ancient human tradition- making tea. Our tea will be created from wild ingredients on the BCH property. Through the ritual of foraging, brewing and drinking our tea, we will create an atmosphere where we can dig deep into two separate stories of Jesus staying close with God in his last days. This is an occasion to connect with the natural world as we reflect on what it means to have hope and perseverance in hard times.

The day will start with a morning session, break for an included lunch, continue with an afternoon session, and finish with a closing prayer. Both sessions will include brewing a different kind of tea, and explore a different story of Jesus. All participants should bring outdoor-appropriate clothing as we will be outside for two portions of the day, except in case of extreme weather. Registration is limited to 20 participants. $40 per person.

Faith-Informed Programming

A different depth, perspective and experience.

As a person of faith, I know there is immense wonder to be found in understanding the ecological science and relationships in the natural world around us. When we cultivate this wonder, we remember that we are part of something bigger than our anxiety and insecurities, and we grow our relationship with the divine.

I am a devout Christian, and practice within the Episcopal denomination. I am also a scientist. I bring these two identities to meet here in what I call “faith-informed programming.” I let the specific ecology of a place inform a worship, workshop, camp or retreat experience. It means that prompts for group reflection may center around how you interact with nature, how you were taught to view nature, how it informs your spiritual practice today. That means you might write your Advent intentions on paper birch bark, or learn a little bit about sugar maple ecology while traveling through an Outdoor Stations of the Cross.

I am also an experienced group musical leader and songs are an essential part of my prayer! Depending on the setting, I am equally at home using children’s Christian songs, songs from Music that Makes Community, chants from Taize and Iona, traditional Christian hymns and songs from contemporary Christian folk.

We’ve got Joy Like A Fountain in our souls!

Making music outdoors keeps you warm.

You won’t find me discussing this sort of thing explicitly in my general programs: I’m not teaching you Tree ID to try and convert you. What I am doing is always trying to bring anyone and everyone into experiences outside where they can experience joy, wonder, and curiosity; independence in nature, yet connection. These feelings help us feel more whole as humans, and bring us closer to right relationship with the more-than-human world.

retreats and worship

I am a skilled small group facilitator and experienced Christian worship leader. I bring a prayerful, musical and liturgically-aware presence to services of all kinds. Whatever the objective of your retreat is, there is an inherently valuable way to bring nature into it.

camps

A lot of what I do is brought all together in camp! Being outside, exploring, learning, forming group connections, singing, praying, personal transformation- these are all hallmarks of a camp experience. So, as you might guess, I love participating in camps. Contact me to learn more about how I can support and enhance your camp program.
